I may be overthinking this, but I need to purchase a transom mount trolling motor for my Dad's 1997 Lund Rebel SS 1650. I measured and the top of transom to waterline appears to be about 12 inches. I am looking at the Minn Kota Endura Max 55, but can't decide between the 36" shaft or the 42" shaft. Most of the information I read said that the 36" shaft would be just fine (use for waterline depth of 10-16"). I guess my question is this: is there any harm in getting the 42" shaft? They are actually the same price on Amazon. And I am thinking the 42" would make it easier to stand up and fish as well. Thanks for any advice folks.

on my 1999 lund rebel 1650 I had a 36in transom mount and it was fine. I ditched it later on cause could not get the boat control,I wanted so I purchased a minnkota power drive 50 lb thurst for the bow 54in length with the co pilot remote .the transom mount one I had had the tilting handle also. it may be better for the 42in since your dad will be standing in back cause his is a console model. mine was a tiller model boat.
