Saw this post some time ago, cant find it now. I thought it said if you use a mixture 50/50 mix of water and vinegar it would take the water scum off the sides and back of the boat. I could be wrong also.I have an older boat but I still like to keep it fairly clean, cant afford a new one unless I win the lottery, fat chance of that happening lol

50/50 is what I use after fishing the Wisconsin River. I wash the boat with water to get big stuff off , then the 50/50 vinager/water mix. cotton cloth seems to work well after you spray on the mix. Rinse off real well when done scrubbing.

To the OP. You are absolutely correct that a mixture of 50% distilled water and 50% vinegar is a fantastic mixture to remove water scum. I have been at this boating game over 35 years and have yet to see or use a commercial product that works better. Put it in a spray bottle and spray a fine mist on (The motor, water line, electronic, etc) Let is sit for a minute or 2 and wipe it off. If makes things look like new.
I also use Bass Boat Saver which does add a protective coverage, but the Vinegar and Water is a better cleaner.

I use Star Brite Hull Cleaner that you can get at Fleet Farm. This stuff makes it super easy to clean my boat.

Someone read my mind on this one. I just sat down to ask what to do to get water scum off. I will for sure try the vinegar and water solution then move on from there.
