The depth finder on our pontoon boat got jacked up. Is this an easy to fix project, or do I need a pro? Also, would it be easy to mount a fish finder in its place? Thanks for the help.

If you post the general area where you're going to look at it, someone that's nearby would probably help you out. I would depending on where you're at. There's a lot of guys that would if near by. Good luck, spring is right around the corner, and everyone is getting excited!!!!!!

If it is just a built in depth finder, you can replace the transducer only, which is the transducer and all the cable that plugs into the back of the display, or mount a new fish finder. I don't think you will find a round built in the dash depth finder/ fish finder combo. Anything is possible though so take a look around. Mount a fish finder is pretty simple to do. Use the same routing that is currently used for the transducer cable, pick a location to mount the unit and runs some power to the battery with a fuse. If you want to get fancy you can hook it into an extra switch if you have one, but it's not necessary. I bought a small locator with downscan for someone as a gift last year and was very impressed with it for the size and cost.

I'm not sure on the dash, and haven't looked at it. It's at my father in law's cottage. I'm just trying to gain some knowledge before seeing it in May. Ideally, it would be nice to replace it with a fish finder(marcum, vex, etc) that will show depth and structure. I really do appreciate the input.

Sounds like the transducer - should be an easy replacement. Even if the wiring is okay, a smashed up transducer will not work. What type of unit do you have on the dash now - just a depth finder (round gauge w/ numbers) or a locator (has a screen - typically lowrance/humminbrid)?

Sandbarcornhole, The guys would need to know where it was mounted? Is this the same place you want to mount the new one? What you're mounting it to. Front, back, inside the pontoons ?

More details please...

Running new wiring or replacing the transducer in a pontoon really shouldn't be much trouble....
