Staying at a Hotel or resort with your boat.

I have a trip planned staying at a resort. The boat needs to stay in overflow parking while the truck can stay up by room. What do you all take out and what do you leave in the rig overnight? I have a cover, 1 locking rod storage and a detachable bracket for the Trolling Motor. Obviously electronics come out.

Thanks

there's a lot of security systems available, price range and capabilities are pretty broad...

this article mentions a few and lists some tips

I always try to park under a light.  Crooks don't want to be operating in the light vs. the cover of darkness.

Park the boat in your hotel parking spot and truck in remote parking. Still take out all easy carry stuff.

I didn't see this tip about staying at a hotel or resort so here is something I do along with removing everything I don't want to replace if stolen. I put a Masterlock cable lock through the spokes of the trailer wheels. I can't think of what that lock is called but the cable end goes through the lock.

I have stayed at a number of motels that didn't have trailer parking except in an over flow parking area and have never had a problem. This situation occurred last year while staying at Lac Du Flambeau hotel/casino. I checked with the security gate for employee parking. They let me park inside the guard station and they kept an eye on it for me.

Good Fishing to everyone.

Agree with the other comments.  The only time I leave everything in the boat overnite is when we are on a flyin and we have the only cabin on the lake....

So what i decided on was to put 2 security screws on each compartment to reduce unloading the entire boat. Bumpers, planer boards, and small stuff. I have the holes marked with smaller 3/4 inch screws that push in and out. Takes literally 2 minutes to secure all compartments with cordless driver. I will still take out  electronics, tackle bag, rods, seats, windshield, TM and anything in view. This also locks my battery compartment and AC cord is accessible. I tried with all my might and could not open a compartment.

Only leave things in your boat that you can afford to replace or don't mind losing.

Ive had a drain plug stolen off my boat while backing it up to launch.  No i didn't forget  to put it in.  It just so happened that someone seen the person take it.  When i confronted the kid that took it, he said his dad forgot his drain plug at home and they needed one to go fishing.  Trust NO One.  One theft will destroy any fishing trip.

Considering that I have had stuff stolen out of my boat in my driveway in a little rural town.  I would take everything in including my rods.  Don't matter if it is locked or not.  I now have a security camera set up but still can't trust anyone.

Personally I would  stay somewhere else, even with everything out of my boat I couldn't sleep knowing it was out in remote parking.

During tournements I've even seen guys tarps cut just so thieves could quickly look in a boat to see if there was anything to steal, faster then unstrapping I guess.

Other then find a new place the best option, as mentioned, is to perk your boat close and put your truck in the remote parking.

Don't take any chances... sleep in boat.

I recommend you take in anything that is not locked down. Someone stole the front bow bumper from my trailer last weekend at the Wind Lake parking lot and there is local LEO there quite a bit.

Definitely take in anything of value that isn't locked down.  We even take off the prop nightly when staying at a hotel.  If a thief doesn't see anything, or see difficulty they will walk right past you and onto the next guy.

Thanks everyone. Just making sure I'm not over thinking this. I don't even pull into wally world and go shopping unless someone stays with boat. I keep it in the garage at home and never have to unload everything normally except for winter...

I stay over night at motel while enroute to N/W Ontario. I agree with others; lock everything that can be locked , remove and secure everything else, keep boat covered, and be smart about parking location.

The places we stay are frequented by other fishermen. Most of us park near each other and it seems we all have a neighborhood watch mentality. I haven't had any problems so far. Been doing this same routine for years.

Honestly, if someone is motivated enough to steal your stuff, they will. Make it as difficult for them as possible.
