My season is quickly approaching! Hopefully I’ve been training hard enough. Really getting comfortable with the black powder. Anything inside 150 yards is in trouble.

Got these in the Kremling area 2004. Second rifle season. Had to rent u haul trail to get meat back to Wisconsin. Also had a cow elk.

Fish X. My son and I both used the 350 grain Boreloks and 100 grains of Triple 7. That big heavy bullet performance was excellent. Good Luck

FX… let me know when you are out here. I live just south of Unit 20, NW area of Unit 38.

Rack from a bull taken in unit 20 on public land.

I bought a landowner tag for First rifle in Unit 61 for this year which is a decent trophy area. If I could buy one in Unit 20 every year I would. Really like Unit 20

Yep I’ll be on private.

Hope you've got some private land access in unit 20. Limited public and a bunch of it can't be accessed without paying a trespass fee.

I won't go so far as to say you wasted points. Far from it but with 18 pts there were options with better trophy potential and much greater public access to spread out hunting pressure.

Good luck.

Fish, You didn't settle on Unit 20. Its a excellent unit with great bulls and little pressure. I'll look forward to the pic of your bull!!

Sorry about you Dad and agree the point creep game is bad enough but then to have to pay every year for them and not use them really sucks.

Yes we used the hotter primers for Blackhorn.  We never had misfires on the range only on the biggest bucks of my buddies life. Twice.

Also, Colorado DOW kind of rubbed me wrong. My dad passed in 2020 he had over 20 points and they went with him upon his passing. I'm done paying over $100 for a preference point.

Yeah I know I wasted some points, but I want to hunt now. Unit 10 and 76 were the units I had an eye on and I don't want to wait until I'm 60 to get a tag. Unit 20 looks like it's got some good bulls and I love the Estes Park area.

I've killed 5 bulls with Blackhorn and never had a misfire when practicing or in the field. Just curious...did you follow BH recommendations concerning primers? Requires a hotter burning primer of which there are only a few that work well.

Perch, I too had misfires when I was load testing for my hunt with Blackhorn. I know people talk it up but I was not impressed at all.
