Wondering what people saw who hunt the public land to the east of the casino, in the area by the youth correctional center and the flowages along 54.   Our group of 6 saw a total of 4 does.   As with others, the wind did not help on Saturday.   Lots of predator tracks, one wolf seen.   I was hoping that with the past 2 years of not shooting does would help, along with this one.  Hunting pressure was very light, I think alot of people left the area due to the lack of deer and high wolf herd.   This is the same basic area in which the elk were released.

stoych,  Carry your cell phone while trespassing. My trespasser used his to call the sheriff  himself, (use caution while threatening the land owner) then he got a ticket to go with his mouth and nose.

stoych,

You lose all credibility in your attempted argument by trying to say insurance companies have anything to do with the deer population.

My first year hunting there was 85 and all through the 90s. Our group would regularly see 75-100 deer opening weekend. And everyone's buck poles had plenty of bucks hanging every year.  Than in 1995 i  cant remember exact year they (dnr) put up singes all over to be careful not to shoot wolves and had pics of size difference between wolf and yote .they were introducing them to the area. It didn't take many years by 2002 it got to were we were seeing nothing but wolf tracks and our group seen 0 deer opening weekend and year after only 1... haven't been back sense  pretty sad

One doe shot opening day( I haven’t shot a doe in 8 years) by a guy who showed up once in 10 years isn’t going to destroy the herd.  I said we saw 10 does and nine were still walking as far as I know. You guys love to blow things out of proportion.  No problem with bait huh?  Guess I know who the private land owners are.   Trespassing is as illegal as baiting, poaching, shinning, and Shooting before and after legal shoot. I’m sure you have followed every rule to date. If I don’t see what on the neighbors property how would I know they bait?

If 9 guys averaged ~1 deer a day seen during your hunting and proud trespassing and you still shot a doe, you are everything that is wrong with deer hunting, not the DNR.

Sounds like BRF area is what PRICE CO. was 8 to 10 years ago. But don't blame the wolf packs, they told us. Don't worry thou, when the food source is almost gone they move on. Hope it is toward MADISON, skipping my town I hope.

Another problem is the people who own land around the blk rvr Forrest have been baiting since October. They can say they don’t but I like to trespass opening weekend (thanks dnr no way to identify me just another guy in orange). What I found was over 30 bait piles corn, apples, one guy had 20plus heads of cabbage. Along with hunters running around the woods the day before season can’t help either, Thursday night everyone and their brother shooting/sighting in their gun.

im not immune to stupidity I bought a tag too. I got nothing but the DNR got their money.  Like everything else allow the government to run a program and they are bound to screw it up or screw someone outta their money. For educated folks they sure are dumb when it comes to running the program right. But again like sheep we go buy a tag.  Shame on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources... you F***ed up a great deer hunting state and have allowed the wolves, coyotes, insurance companies, and cry baby liberals to dictate how we manage our herd.   We as hunters should take it upon ourselves to clear the woods of the wolves and coyotes. And we as hunters should be asking more from our state decision makers. But there must not be a payoff big enough for that.  And your right it is very hard to get the next generation involved when there is nothing to get them excited about.  O wait I know of another way we can make money... let’s keep clear cutting the Forrest and destroying habitat, and then say we are trying to get new growth. When??in the year 2045.  And finally the poachers. I also found no less than 5 deer skinned, half the meat still left on the deer on opening Saturday. Gee I wonder when the wolves learned to skin deer like that.  I understand they can’t be everywhere at all times.  But 4days and 21 miles of walking as well as driving around I saw absolutely no presence of the DNR. None.  No wonder why the poachers are killing deer in September at 9pm at night.  Hey DNR. All we are asking is to care just a little bit.  Not much to ask for.   #takebackourstate

Hunt the same general area.  1 deer and 1 tail seen by 8 guys opening weekend.  I have to say it’s getting old.  Hard to get the youngsters interested when all they hear are the stories of pre 35000 doe tags issued when we all SAW deer on a regular basis.  And no, we were not part of groups that slaughtered the herd.

Pack(s) of wolves is up to about 35 in our area.  Not sure how the deer can survive that.  We saw a ton of deer up turkey hunting in the spring.(before fawns dropped), Yet didn’t see squat this fall...

I honestly don’t understand where the hell the go.  We don’t just sit either, made drives fri-sun second weekend and saw 9 deer, 6 on one drive...

I wish they would go no does for the next 2-3 years yet.

5 guys hunted same spots as last year.  Nothing harvested, lost one doe.   Everyone saw 1 or 2 deer on saturday, nothing Sunday.   Seems to be a few more deer around than last year, but not many.   Tons of wolf scatt in the swampy area that I walked through.   I would say the number of hunters is down 60 to 75 percent from 15 years ago.

9 guys. Thursday thru Monday. Killed 1 doe.  Maybe a total of 10 deer seen. Not one buck. But the DNR got there money.  Heard coyotes every night.  Saw wolf tracks everywhere we didn’t hear coyotes.

I heard some of the elk or maybe all 9 that are left were seen by the east fork bridge . On monday  I lost my best friend along highway k and old 54 to a medical problem after hunting
