I've heard a fair amount of rifle shots this year as well, or at least more that I have noticed. Very little in the morning, if at all, but on several occasions while in my stand I'll hear one lone shot at dusk. Nothing real close to me.
It's hard for me to believe that those are people sighting in a rifle.
I heard way more shooting than normal over the weekend as well. Some of them are surely shotguns from small game or ducks, but some were definitely high powered rifles. I could understand sighting in a gun and hear 15-20 shots, but some were just one or two random shots scattered about. Poaching? Then you have the shooting gallery a mile down the road which is firing off 30 round mags of .223 non stop all weekend. At least that doesn't phase the deer anymore from what I could tell.
