Trail Camera Pictures
I agree, it is fun to go back and forth. You and I are usually very close on our estimates from pictures, so it is always fun when there is one we seemingly see so differently. I do think you are short on those G2's. I may be a bit generous, but I'd be shocked if they aren't north of 12" each.
This is one I really hope gets settled!
I do remember many year's ago on here, I guessed on one that the guy ended up getting during the gun season and he IM'd me. I was stupid close, like within a couple inches on a 160's buck.
And two years ago my buddy shot a great 10 point with the bow. A group of guys with hands on the buck sent me one crappy picture. I did some quick calc's and said congratulations on a 150's class buck. The immediate response was "we are all thinking 140." I green scored him a week later at 153 1/8 gross and 149 3/8 net.
I love it when I can get that close off a picture!
I'd bet those 2's are 11-12 inches. I do like your mass, spead is close, and MB, but i think your estimate on tines is where your are off. i'm not seeing a 8 inch brow. maybe a 7 and 6.
It's fun to bicker back n forth a bit. maybe we'll find out.
Regardless what this buck scores, the reality is, an 8pt that makes 125 is a world class buck.
It's not hard for me to imagine that deer going into the 160"s.
What if his spread is 18". What if MB's are 22.5 - 23 each? What if his G2's are 16", which I think they could be. What if the G3's are 11" and 10"? All of a sudden, you are at something like: 18+22.5+22.5+8+7+16+16+11+10+34 = 165". I don't really think he is quite that big, but I do know that is a massive 8 pt and I think the mass he holds through his tines (knife blade G2's) actually makes him look shorter than he is, which is hard to imagine on a buck this tall.
I leave it at this: I won't be surprised if he grosses anywhere from 145" - 165". I think deer with MB's that swoop up like this deer's are the most difficult deer to guess score on.
no way, that pic is making him look bigger than he is. The camera is his eye level. it's a giant 8, but will never come close to 160.
That night pic is a better indication of height. Night pics make deer look not as massive. So a combination of the 2 gives you the true mass and the true front profile. I can make a 130 inch 10 look 160 with w a lower camera angle.
It's a great buck, River will put down him this weekend, i'm sure everyone will know soon.
If I was a betting man and getting closest without going over, 143-145.
