Best Deer Baits/Attractants

I have been using just plain old corn and apples over last couple of years with some success. But this year with the drought i'm sure corn prices are going to sky rocket. I'm starting this topic to say, whats your favorite attractants that you had good success on, like mineral licks, liquids, even good food plots seeds to plant before the deer season?

All of the "deer cane" type products are basically fancy salt, and you'll get the same results by dumping a bag of softener salt on the ground. do it in the same spot year after year and you end up with a huge hole in the ground. there are only certain times of the year when deer will go for it.
Over the years i've baited deer with apples, corn, carrots, lettuce, cabbage, beets, potatoes, turnips, acorns, pumpkins, tomatoes. I just got a bunch of pumpkins for free from work today.
In northern wisconsin, the deer prefer to eat the corn but apple scent brings them in. in southeast wisconsin, apples are preferred over corn.
If the price of corn is prohibiting you from using it, you are using too much. you can take less than a gallon out and spread it all over the place and the deer will dig for it for weeks. if you put it in one pile they can suck it up in ten minutes, but if you broadcast it they have to work more for it.
Either way, baiting is a great way to scare away big bucks, at least where I hunt. you will see lots of does and fawns though, so it is good for newer hunters who don't have the fire in them yet. Come gun season there are so many piles of corn in the woods around my land that the deer won't move during daylight. everybody blames the wolves, but the cameras tell a different story. it's amazing how much more relaxed the deer are when there is no bait in the area.
Found out something interesting. I used pears for bait this fall. A tree I have produced nearly 300 pounds this fall. Anyways deer loved them. That is until the coyotes moved in. Coyotes took over the bait and the deer have not been back. Had up to three coyotes at a time feeding on the pears. One night they were in for four hours and cleaned up all the pears.
my dad buys and uses the deer cane scrape mix every year he juices up the same spot and the deer come and tear up the ground 8 to 9 foot bigger than the original 2 foot circle he started with he has been using it for 4 years now he puts a camera on the spot and he has gotten some pretty amazing pics from it
me i use crab apples that fall from my trees i will get about three 5 gallon bucket fulls and i will take about 1.5 gallons of them and mash them to smear on a tree by my stand and spread a couple gallons a day during the gun season near my stand
