I feel like an idiot posting this, but my son was really wondering, and I'm not sure. Caught 2 of these on Lake Mary (Upper Twin Lakes) in Kenosha County on mother's day weekend. Haven't caught anything like it there before - he (my son) usually pulls down panfish (bluegill, crappie, pumpkinseed) with a small fake minnow/bobber combination (we've been working on cast/retrieve with weedless worms for bass/pike like Dad but he's still too young to get alot of enjoyment without regularly hooking fish - so he tends to want to do the panfish setup). Anyway . . . opinions? Sucker? Chub? The lips didn't seem big enough for sucker but I havn't caught a 10"+ chub before. The first one put up a fight and actually took a jump (I thought he had hooked a bass before I got it out). Thanks for the help if anyone has an opinion. An 8 year old would really appreciate the assistance (as would Dad) Blush

thats what i was brought up calling a golden shiner, i believe they are roaches. if it was indeed 10" long your son has caught the state record . two fish were recorded this spring and neither was 9" long. the reports of the records were in the mil. journal sentional. congrats to your son.

Give'm time he'll outgrow those spincasters. I thinik we could use some of those down on the other lake!

Thanks to everyone who posted. My son thought it was really cool people responded and were so helpful. Great lesson for him! Now if only I could get him to practice casting more with the open spinning reels so I can get rid of the ancient spincast Zebco's I have to lug with us Big Smile I've taken to leaving my baitcasters behind because there's only so many rod/reel combos I can carry.

Yeah, golden shiner. I caught those ice fishing already. Cheap way to pick up some expensive minnows if you know where to get them and you plan to fish the same body of water with them.

Looks like a shad to me. I've caught some before, the body is really soft, never ate one though.

Looks like a big Golden Shiner. The same minnow species you buy as bait, some call them golden roaches.
