I am taking a vacation up north in july and was wondering some good lakes for walleye. preferably price and vilas counties. I will be staying at copper falls state park and have a 16 foot smokercraft deep V boat with a 65 horse evenrude and a 14 foot canadian style boat with a 15 horse johnson. Which boat would be more suitable? the deep v can sometimes be a pain launching if the launches are not deep enough.

I also want some muskie action as well...

thank you

Mid August and the OP never got around to getting back to us about is trip. He won't: His "joined" date and the original post for this thread are the same. It's unlikely we'll ever hear from him again.

It's why I seldom post reports any more....It's too bad. I LIKE to be helpfull....I posted on this thread. Several paragraphs, maybe 20 minutes to write it. After additional thought I deleted my post. I''m glad I did.

Fishing reports also bring PMs from people who's handles I don't recognize. I still tend to try to help those if they sound sincere but often I never hear back from them with even a simple "thank-you"...."Thanks in advance". I'm beginning to think that means no matter how long I spend typing what I know,I'll never hear from them again.

I've also learned not to say what kind of boat I have...."Stop by and say 'Hi' if you see me"....They don't,but on more than one occasion I've acquired a shadow out on the lake after ID-ing myself when helping a stranger via LL PM.

I used to enjoy posting a report of my vacation to Lake X in Vilas. I do better than most on that lake because I spend precious vacation time scouting, not fishing. I also fish walleyes primarily at night. Many vacationers are either a) afraid to do much boating at night,or b) unwilling to give up 'drinking at the campfire' time.

There's LOTS of good lakes in Vilas. Pick a lake with a good repuutation. Spent some time scouting. Try shallow, deep and in between. Weeds,rock,sand...try fishing during low light or NO light - even if that means getting up early or staying out late....and if you asked for help on an open forum,at least give some kind of report when you get back.

North Twin was mentioned but South Twin is good too. In Price County, the Pike Lake Chain produced fish for us last year. Not a lot of big ones but good eaters. They hung around the cribs in Pike and Round lakes. We caught some monster crappies and nice pike fishing the cribs as well. Musky Jack's located on Hwy 70 had maps of the general locations of the cribs. I'm sure if you stopped in for a beer or two, Dave would give you one. The Wild Goose probably has them as well.

Edit. I found a message that I sent to someone with a few of the crib locations. No GPS coordinates as we used my buddy's GPS on his boat but the info would get you in the ballpark. Message me if interested.

My two favorites in that area are the Turtle Flambeau Flowage and North Twin Lake. Both are excellent walleye/musky lakes and worthy of fishing for a few days since they’re big bodies of water. Your 16 ft would be fine on both. Good luck.
