Wolf River fishing trip
5/22/14 @ 11:06 AM
My son's Boy Scout patrol is planning a late July trip to the Wolf river, we are looking to do some fishing and canoeing. Since we are from across the state, near La Crosse, we would like to get some general ideas for fishing the Wolf.
Which section(s) provide the best opportunity to catch fish? What are some of the better baits and lures to use? What kind of fish could we expect to catch regularly?
Thank you
Wiryeman

WM-
The Wolf is a great fishery and you can catch fish form Poygan to Shiocton - don't know that any one stretch is better than the other. Everyone of course has their favorite spots, but good fishing is found throughout the waterway.
Also, the Wolf River is considerably different than fishing an inland lake. Kind of tough to go there for the first time and do well unless you've fished other rivers...
Maybe send some of the guides up there a private message... I'm sure one of them would be happy to donate some time to the Scouts. It would also make the trip for the boys....
As far as fish, pretty much everything that swims in Wisconsin is in there, except for Trout and Salmon...
