I bought a VersaMax the end of the summer and LOVE it so far. I've shot over 1000 rounds of trap rounds through it and so far with two months of hunting ducks and geese I haven't had one problem with it. The only downside I've found with the gun is it gets pretty dirty where the gas ports come out. The gun is heavier than other guns but to me it doesn't matter because being a young buck heavyness doesn't matter much at all. My buddy owns a SBE2 and to be honest both the guns are comparible although his gun jammed up a few times this fall with some loads he tried to put through it. I took the load that wouldn't cycle through his and it went into my VersaMax like anyother load. Overall I'm very happy and a plus is the Customer Service for Remington in my experience is great.
I've a got a NitroMag. Love the Armor on it. No worries about dents and dings what so ever. I've had it 3 years now and no problems yet. I use it for doves, ducks, geese, pheasants and it takes all the loads nicely. It gets stiff every once in a while if I forget to oil it. But a few dabs of oil and good to go again. One thing about it though that I didn't notice when I first bought it, was that there is a slight curve to the barrel. I'm sure it's just the Armor coat, but every time I'm in the gun section at the stores and see one on the shelves, I ask to look at it and have seen a few others with the slight curve to it as well. I shoot 3 1/2 BBs for ducks all day and can't tell the difference between the 3 and 3 1/2s. Great shotgun for me so far...
I see a few posts ago, the Rem 887 is mentioned. I didn't wanna start a new thread, so...
Anyway, the 887's have been out for a while now. I've read reports of them on "other" forum websites, but I wanna get fellow LL'RS opinions on them. I handled one today at Gander, and I totally dug the armor on that sucker! I've had the ole trusty 870 for over 10 years now and love it, but it's black and I was thinking of getting the 877 in that camo finish. Now, don't leave a bro hangin' fellow linkers ;)
I know some of youse out there have one, so let's here watchya hafta say about it! Please

I bought one last March to replace my 870 super mag. The first thing I did was pattern it for turkey hunting with the factory Xfull choke that came with the gun. That did not turn out the way I would have liked. My 870 with a undertaker choke shoots better at 40 yards than the Versa Max did at 20 yards no bull sh_ _. Than came early goose season and duck hunting after the first 25-30 shots the gun would jam about every 10 or so shots. Cleaned the gun same thing good for 25-30 shots than start jamming again. I toke the gun back and bought a M&P 15 AR. When I toke this gun back they said it was not the first to come back!! I think the worst thing about this is a buddy of mine bought a Rem. 887 ($700 less money) the same day I bought my Versa Max and he had NO problems with his gun all year and shot it as much as mine if not more. So I would tell You to buy a 887 I know I am!!
I talked to a gunsmith over the weekend and he said the reason that Remington now offers a 2 year warranty is because sales dropped so much after the recalls noone was buying them. Everytime I go into a store that sells these I ask what they have in stock and the answer is always the same, we have all of the models in stock. To me it's pretty sad when a company who has been making shotguns for so long really missed the mark with the Versamax. I'm just glad I was able to return mine before the warranty ran out.
