Offseason projects
5/7/13 @ 9:11 AM
Well since I have alot of free time on the weekends I been working on a few off season projects now that it's warm in the garage.
found 11 of these old supermag sized foam filled decoys for $20. Few ppl said there old platiduks.
I had some paint down in the basement from previous tenant that left it. luckily all I had to buy was a small can of black.
I brushed it all on and pretty happy with how they turned out. Just gotta do the eyes and im done.

I've taken all my keel grabbers off and replaced them with rigem rights. Had that problem with them cracking and breaking off two years ago will seting dekes out. Snap, oh no, snap not again......Finally put a bag of decoys in the basement after spending 8 months in the garage. Bought a half dozen used and old can dekes, fixing them up with rigem rights. Looking into buying my daughter a shotgun for her birthday so she can accompany me on her first duck hunt at the age of 19. What to buy, what to buy...........
Been using black n white Silhouette Decoys for a long time use to Help my grandpa set them up when we would Goose hunt way before I could even carry a gun.. It's an excellent way to pull Geese in when you're not on the X by Presenting large numbers and stand out perfect.
I picked up a 26 old silhouettes for $9 !! They were a guys old snow goose spread
Alumakraft is right. Check out the Goose society DVD series they talk about Silhouette Decoys and break it down
Lots of great info in Molt Gears DVDs.
I pour all my own keel grabbers and buy the cords on sale in the winter.
Half my divers are long lines and half keel grabbers. All my puddlers other than team and woodies and keel grabbers. Teal and woodies are Texas rigged. I make my own Texas rigs too.
Keeping them in original boxes and would never work for me simply for storage and I just have too many.
Just painted 10 dzn snow silos and have a pile of Canadas and swans to do.
Keel grabbers are well worth the money. Switched to them a few years ago and now they are on most of my decoys. The only tip I have is when the season is over make sure that stretchy cord isn't stretched out when you put your decoys away for the year. I found that if you leave them stretched out they dry out, crack, and eventually break. I keep all the boxes and even the plastic bags that the decoys come in. When the season is over I put all the decoys back in the boxes and bags they come in. The bags work great at keeping the strings, cord, and weights from getting tangled and it prevents the weights from rubbing on all the other decoys and wearing on the paint.
Been switching over to the keel grabbers on all my dekes.Including the goose decoys. The "L" shape digs in on sandy bottoms, the weights are on the bottom of the decoys and secure. It does not get tangled or beat the crap out of the paint on the decoys. I like 'em alot. Well worth the investment. IMO
