Walleye Fishing
Feeding line while pulling harnesses
6/8/13 @ 9:58 AM
Looking for an explanation on what this exactly means. I hear of guys doing this, but not 100% sure on how and why. My guess is that as they see a board being pullback, they quickly feed the fish some slack line, then engage spool for hookset. Am i right? thanks

I take 1 hook of the treble and hook it in the collar of the worm.
Many times with tattle tale flags, you will see the flag bouncing versus being pulled down and held there. By free spooling the line it causes the harness to free fall and this usually causes them to hammer it. When you re-engage the reel, they are hooked up. Think about how many times you bring in a harness with the tail of the crawler missing. Everyone thinks that it is some panfish of some sorts, but you would be surprised how many times it is a walleye. One other trick... run a #6 treble as the back hook on your 2 hook harness. Your hookup percentage skyrockets. Hope this helps.

yes you are correct, usually do this if i miss the fish, reel in and the back end of the crawler is gone but still have crawler on all hooks. if the board slams back i tend to just start reeling fish in. if the board is slowly pulling back, free spool line out with thumb on spool slowly 20-40 ft and click over and start reeling.
