Like someone already said, ask ten guys get ten answers.
I fish the Mississippi, Wisconsin River, and Canada, never use a leader for anything, tried most of the lines and always go back to Trilene XL 6# test or Sufix Siege 6# test. 4# on my ultralights for panfish. Don't like the clear, lean more towards the smoke/green.
Spooled 2 reels, one with 832 and the other with power pro slick. Both in 10#. Can't go wrong with either. What I like about braids is that I can get out of most snags with a flick of the wrist. If that doesn't work, holding the spool and pulling straight back does. Using a uni knot, it breaks at the jig. Using a palomar makes it a bear. Sensitivity is off the charts as you would expect.
Used Suffix 832 in N.Canada last year and it worked great trolling. In fact one day the wind picked up and slid the boat sideways and my line got wrapped around in the prop shaft. My brother running the boat untangled it and I went on using it the rest of the week with no problems.
here's the thing. certain lines can only certain things. (example- you can't use fluorocarbon while using a bobber since it sinks.) braids are expensive. mono stretches. there are pros and cons to everything. it's fun to try new things, but I always find myself going back to mono. I use Berkley XL and Sensation and have no problems. 4, 6, and 8 pound are my main lines I use. sometimes I will use 10.
i also run 10lb xt on all trolling set ups, with either a 10lb vanish leader or last year ran 10lb fireline and liked the fireline with lots of northerns caught early on in the spring/summer before the heat came. never changed back to vanish and it did not seem to matter catch wise. like 6lb on jig rods been using all differant stuff like the suffix in red or blue, transition works well, power pro, and tried some sensation last year and it was also an ok line for jigging. but like already stated eveyone has there own preferences and likes.
If you ask ten guys you will probably get ten different answers. I use Trilene 14 lb test red box for trolling . Don't over think it or get suckered in to fancy packaging or inundated with useless package information .I've had everything From sturgeon to foul hooked carp and have horsed them to the limits without breaking . If you troll with super line where there are many snags you will tear up a lot of equipment getting a crank back where mono does have a reasonable breaking point. I will say that the ten pound gets lure down to proper depths without letting out addition line. I use NO drag , run boards and crank my fish with authority.I'm a little rougher than most when flopping fish in the boat. 14lb WORKS for me, try to find something that you like and works for your application. What were your problems that you had with 15 and what are you trying to eliminate .
