Walleye Fishing
Best jiggin combo
4/5/13 @ 5:07 PM
I'm upgrading. What is best rod, spinning reel, line combo . In your experience/opinion.
I have been using graphite rods - 6-7ft, basic mid range spinning reels and mono line. I hear the super lines are better for jigging. Would like to hear some opinions on that as well as best pairing for rods/reels and jig fishing walleye

Nice walleye fishhook! It makes me feel great to see nice fish caught on the rods we build.
I really enjoy doing specialty rod's like fishhook's 6'4" rods, tweeked right to where someone wants it.
Fishinnut - simply thank you!
We just opened our new store last Friday, and traffic was great. Thanks for the support guys, and let us know if we can ever help!
Ok I'll comment,I sold all my Avid's last yr. and got 5 Elk River custom's and I must say I could not be a happier guy!
Just love these rod's,and fishhook I have the same combo's but have the split-grip just awesome!
Oh by the way,I run P-line and the son likes the fire line
The rod is the key factor here, as it will provide the majority of the sensitivity.
Next would be the line - I fish 4# Fireline - it will break the 6# mono or flouro leader I use and casts like a dream. Others like Suffix or Power Pro - they are good too. The biggest mistake I see guys make is going to heavy on the line. 20# braid with 6# or 8# diameter is just not needed. The fine diameter of 4# or 6# superline is a big advantage for casting and getting and keeping a bait down in the water (less line drag).
The reel is the least important thing in the set up. You could get by with a $40 Pfleuger Trion, but I'd recomend at least the $60 President in size 25 or 30.
Rod - well an Elk River ERX series would be my first recomendation, 6'2" Med-lite or Medium, but the ER1 series is very nice as well.
Good Luck!
Most of that is personal preference and where you are fishing I love my 7ft med action with a fast tip Okuma dead eye rod paired with a high speed okuma trio that rod I have 10lb braid with a 8lb fluorocarbon leader I also like my St croix 7ft med lite fast rod with 8lb mono all depends on the conditions and where I am fishing
