walleye running under ice?

Im a firm believer that walleye run under the ice. live on fox between omro and eureka and there is a strong possibility ice won't be out by the end of month or early April. what is everyone else's opinion on walleye running before ice out. just curious.

I guess it depends on what you define as "the run". Walleyes will actually spawn when conditions are right, as we know. There are a number of other factors that cause them to move this time of year depending on what type of system you are fishing. Can you catch fish that are part of the run when there is still ice on the river, or wherever you are fishing? Absolutely. If you can get on safe ice, on a system that is open to game fishing now, you can catch fish. If you can get a casting line into open water, on a system that is open to game fishing now, you can catch fish. Ice, water temp, sun, rain, wind, etc. has no more or less bearing on catching "running" eyes right now than it does any other day of the year. Good Luck!

Not impossible, but not likely IMO. Water temp needs to be 45 or above for spawning.
