Pheasant hunting Question

I got an invite to a Pheasant hunt at Wern Valley. My question is can I use my new 20 ga? Is a 20 guage suitable for pheasants? If so what loads and choke should I use? I just want to spend some quality time with this gun.

My party and I have used everything...12's, 20's, and 28's. The owner sometimes brings his 410 as well. We have taken birds with all 4 gauges. Between bow hunting and pheasant hunting, I am like a kid in a candy store come fall.

3" with #5 shot is what I use for most of my small game. I was raised with a 20 ga. and you should have no problems. IC to mod chokes over dogs work great. I use an over/under 20ga. for grouse with these chokes although in the IC barrel I usually use 2 3/4" #5. The only thing with a 20 ga. is there is not much room for error.

I hunt Wern Valley on a regular basis and only use a 20 ga. I do shoot the Prarie Storm, 3" #5. I hunt behind flushers and use an IC or Modified choke. Have fun and there are usually extra birds out there.

I agree with Fish and Work 4,5 and 6 are fine. I would recommend to spend extra change and buy Prairie Storm (it really does knockem down) or the Fiocchio brand. I put a green High Vis sight on for extra measure. Relax and have a great time!

From my experience...pheasant farms equal up and close shots with birds. My 12 guage has blasted a few well past the point of eating (not proud of that.....just saying). I think a 20 is fine. I have a friend who is an absolute die hard bird hunter. Spends almost every day out. His preferred gun is a 20 (even for geese). Case in point....a 20 will do the job...

20 ga is perfectly fine, I use 6 or 5 shot and anywhere from a skeet choke to modified depending on what dog I am hunting behind. When behind a pointer I will use a skeet choke and with my flushers I usually use an improved cylinder or light modified.
