Upland/Small Game
Prairie Storm

Just wondering if anyone else uses this stuff. I just got back from a Western State and that stuff is plain lethal.
The bad part about it is just rips right through the birds and wastes soo much meat.
Birds that I shot that were flying away at 30-40 yrd were just shredded.
On one of our last days there were 60mph winds so needless to say the birds were gone in a hurry!! This poor bird go up between my dog and myself and was making a quick get away until he met the storm. The dog wouldnt even bring him back. it was probably 40 yrds away when I hit him( 3RD SHOT) AND this is all that was left.
I shot improved modified as i wouldnt dare go full choke. I wouldnt really want to go to a more open choke, but was wondering what others thought, did if you use that stuff.
Im am going to be using the regular #6s for the WI ditch chickens!!
Good luck and safe hunting,

I absolutely love this stuff. I shoot the #6 in 20 ga and it just straight up puts the birds straight down. I like it because there are no cripples to worry about. I ran out the other day and switched over to some left over federal upland loads in #5 and I hit a bird, feathers everywhere, and the thing hit the ground running. It even still had enough to make a leap over my yellow lab before she turned around and finished it off. When I cleaned him out, there was a giant hole in the breast, so how it lived so long is beyond me. Needless to say, I made the hour trip to the closest store that sells Prairie Storm for the 20 and bought a couple boxes right away.
Ditto here. I literally exploded a couple of birds last year, and stone cold missed some I was sure I was on. I went back to trusty old Federals and haven't blown up a bird nor had misses that I didn't think should have happened. I should have never left using the regular federal field loads.
Completely agree - great for dropping birds out of the sky, bad deal if you planned on eating them.
I emailed the company and told them of my concerns and they replied back to use an improved cylinder choke.
i replied back with a question why do they sell aftermarket chokes for the stuff that keep it extra tight.
I guess it works good for killing, but not so much for eating them.
My buddy bought a box and had similar results. Not much left but a beak and a couple of feet. He came to the same conclusion as you, and went back to Remington 5's.
