anybody been out for a bird recently? seen some flocked up in large groups..

Hey guys dont forget that dec 10 is the dead line for the 2013 spring turkey. Also if anyone is looking to hire a guide in zone 1 or 3 give me a call. I have both private and public land to hunt.

Shot a 17 lb with two eleven inch beards for my cirst gurkey het!!!!

Shot a nice 11 pound hen a couple weeks ago, hope its not as tough as the 25 pound tom i shot last spring!

got my triple beard back from the spring i think it turned out neat.

I got my fan back from my spring turkey yesterday. I've never seen them done like this, but I think it turned out really nice. The picture doesn't do it justice, and that strip of back feathers don't show the greens and purples that can be seen in natural light.

I hunted with some buddies who had tags 6th season. We had a few close calls, called in some jakes and ended up filling both tags on a 19 lb. tom and a 23 lb. tom. I was surprised that this time of year we saw toms still with large flocks of hens and strutting. Seems a little late. Usually this time of year you might see them with a hen or 2 in morning and then go back to the nest. But we saw toms with hens all day. The times we got to come in were with decoys of strutting toms and a hen. They did not like that and came charging in. We hen called a bit and actually saw several toms go the other way. They must have been hunted pretty hard..

the 6th and final season. Wow is all i can say. 93 degree heat, ticks a plenty, skits everywhere, extremely cruchy in the woods. Had a buddy come up and we went full bore. Hunted friday night, he missed a big one about 23-25lbs, he missed one on saturday, and missed one at ten feet on sunday morning right away. A little later we had three jakes come in and we each got one. went and bought another tag, and went back out til about Noon. he left and i went back out last night and intercepted this one on the way back to his roost. The biggest TOM i have ever shot 26lbs, 10" beard 1 1/8" spurs. I shot him with the bow at about 20 yards but my shot was low and back, took out his drumstick, and then the chase was on. I cant believe how they can still go and balance and run/fly on one leg. I caught up with him in the pines, and grabbed his good foot, that was a bad decision as he spurred the meaty part of my thumb pretty good. It was a fight and there were feathers flyin, and finally i hit him in the head with a big branch. Im sorry i had to kill him that way, but you cant shoot at a running turkey with a bow. i Love turkey hunting more than anything.

Yeah, sorry bassman for your loss too, I guess when they can't hunt anymore they don't have the drive to survive. When I'm unable to hunt or fish I'll probably go the same way.

what a horrible finally season. started out wed. morning 3 a.m. i wake up excited to finally start my season and my oldest dog (15 yrs. old) had past away during the night. she went in her sleep was the only up side to it. how i miss her! didnt get out til around 10 a.m and nothing all day, not even a gobble. Thursday i get out on time and finally see a couple toms on the other side of the field around 8 a.m. so i put the stalk on and get within 100 yards and make a few yelps. immediately they go into strutting. im thinking i got this wrapped up. slowly sneaking up to the edge of the field when i hear a tractor coming up to the field. yup. farmer decided to till two of his fields right then. toms disappeared, so i went for breakfast. came back at 11 and sat the rest of the day only seeing 3 hens sneaking thru the woods. no gobbles heard. i had to miss friday so went back out sat. morning to a different farm only to see deer and coons. wouldnt think my season could get much worse huh? wake up at 3 a.m. sunday just as my doorbell rings. sister in law is at the house telling us my wifes grandmother passed away in the nite. that ended my season right there. no more ambition to fight the ticks and heat. seen more driving than i did hunting. almost seems turkey hunting isnt worth the effort anymore. hope everyone else did well and found success on some birds.

Guess I shouldn't have given up on the season yet. Uncle called me today and said two toms were strutting with a hen this evening right behind his garage, but already made plans with wife to play tennis tomorrow:< Oh well, have to do that too....I guess.

Thanks for all the kind words about Buckshot. I never thought it would be this hard to lose a pet, but he really wasn't one the more I think of it, he was a family member. As much as I would love another, I just don't have enough time to commit for all the training and exercise. I'll just dream about retirement in 20 years and the opportunity I'll have then to train another "Buckshot".
