My biggest bird was in Richland Co. I shot him the 1st season and he was 28 lbs. Big old bird that made the craziest gobbling sound ever. Thought he was actually a jake until he came in and saw his full fan. Winged him and actually had to chase him down the hill about 500 yards and corner him by a fence. Crazy hunt Big Smile

I put the hammer down on a tom in Mississippi this morning. Quite shy of the size of toms shot in good ol Wisco. He was 17 lbs. with an 8" beard. Must be because of the warm weather down there. Much like the deer a little bit smaller. No fat on them because they really don't need to carry it. I heard that it was a rarity to shoot a gobbler over 20 lbs. down there. Either way a great hunt.

I heard 0 gobbles 2 days and only thing that kept me hunting was the the few turkey tracks I saw in the mud and a few feathers here and there. Not to mention the chance to shoot a wild hog. I called all morning on a food plot and had out a decoy. Around 7:30 I spotted one come out feeding at the end of the food plot. He saw my decoy and just fed towards it. He came in a little bit of a half strut and I smacked him at about 40 yards. He ran down the hill and I took off sprinting and heard him flopping in the leaves. Thank god he went down or I would have been in big trouble.

the boy shot a 26.5 lber that was on heavily hunted private land. 11.5 beard abd 1.625 spurs. when we skinned him we found old wounds from being shot at. we recovered copper plated 4&6's, steel 2's and 4's. he was sprayed all over his body, breast, back ,legs and thighs. most went in about an inch.

D-Brockman... That bird sounds like a beast!! Turkey beards is a whole other topic. It seems that after the birds get to 10" they rub off and break on the ground from dragging or other "wear and tear" Pretty cool though. I've shot 1 jake that had a doubler. My buddy shot a couple w numerous beards I believe it had 5 but those are hard to come by!!

26.5lb is my heaviest. Had good spurs but his beard was rotted off almost completely.

I was sneaking to my spot in the afternoon and snapped a stick underfoot. He gobbled at that and after I dove to a tree and made a call, he had cut the distance in half...he about ran down my barrel after that. Must of been a lonely guy that day haha!
