I put the hammer down on a tom in Mississippi this morning. Quite shy of the size of toms shot in good ol Wisco. He was 17 lbs. with an 8" beard. Must be because of the warm weather down there. Much like the deer a little bit smaller. No fat on them because they really don't need to carry it. I heard that it was a rarity to shoot a gobbler over 20 lbs. down there. Either way a great hunt.
I heard 0 gobbles 2 days and only thing that kept me hunting was the the few turkey tracks I saw in the mud and a few feathers here and there. Not to mention the chance to shoot a wild hog. I called all morning on a food plot and had out a decoy. Around 7:30 I spotted one come out feeding at the end of the food plot. He saw my decoy and just fed towards it. He came in a little bit of a half strut and I smacked him at about 40 yards. He ran down the hill and I took off sprinting and heard him flopping in the leaves. Thank god he went down or I would have been in big trouble.
