So at what age have people taken there kids out with them turkey hunting? How long did they last out there with you? I have thought about taking my 6 yr old son with me this year but am concern that he will not sit still very long and maybe even be bored sitting there after a while.

I've been taking my 6 year old along for last couple years now, have even brought a friend and their Dad too. I must tell you I've never taken so much stuff in the field with me before! However, we lasted a long time and have had a great time. The keys for us are: 1) A BIG blind (We've had 3 adults and 2 kids in double bull) 2) A sleeping bag for naps (Only sleeping room in double bull for 2 adults and 1 kid) 3) LOTs of snacks 4) Something else to do, coloring books, etc. 5) A relatively short walk 6) Patience, it is not about the turkey hunt as much as it is about introducing them to the field

I feel its never too early to take your kids out. I take both my 3 and 5 year out. Heres what you have to realize. They are not going to sit that long at first. Decide your intentions of going and then decide. You want to sit 12 hours leave them. You want to introduce them to hunting, teach them how to sit and have a partner for life then take them. I dont think age matters at the beginning. The first few times they are not going to sit still the same as you. You've learned that and they need to learn that as well.

Took my 3 year old out with me last year for the first time. We sat for about 3 hours with birds around us most of the time. Towards the end he started to get antsy. I was proud of how long he sat with me. Cant wait until this spring to take him out again. Just a little advise keep the milkduds at home. Made the mistake of buying them for my son for when he started to get antsy and it was a loud chocolatey mess! Lesson learned.

This will be the first year I'm taking my son with me. He is 6. I plan on bringing the sweets, drinks, video games, etc. My plan of attack is to do a combination of sitting and run and gun. Sitting too long will bore him and doing to much run and gun will wear him out. I'm pretty jacked... I hope we get some good gobbling to get him excited. I took him duck since he was 2 and I have taken him pheasant and deer hunting too. The thing is not to push too hard and he will be hooked!

My Dad started taking me out into the woods before I could walk. I was fishing with him while I was in a car seat. I think I was 11 or 12 before I actually turkey hunted with him. Each kid is different, don't push it on them and let them be the judge. I remember my Dad taking me into the woods and showing me turkey sign, deer sign, different plants and different things in the woods. It got my curiosity going and I have enjoyed being in the woods ever since.

My son started coming with me when he was 8. I bought a blind when he started, never used one before. Provided food and drink and he provided his electronic toys. It depends on the child and the amount of activity for sure. My son may be the exception, he'll sit in a bow stand dark to dark. Never too early to start just don't make them sit much longer than they want, it will soon become something they won't enjoy.

I started taking my son at 6 yrs old (is now 16) and we had a blast together. My advice is have a blind bring snacks for him and when things get slow have him try your box call, slat call. Never to young to start learning. Also remember when he is done take a break don't make him sit out there all day.
