I havent needed to shoot beyond about 45 yds. I patterned at 40 yds and it was excellent but I didnot count shot nor take a photo of the pattern. This was on My SP10 with the jellyhead. Get out and do some shooting on a pattern board and you will learn much about your gun, choke and the shot it likes. I have always had best results with #6 shot, even when I use my flintlock for turkeys.
Used to have a BPS 10 and shot invector full with 3 1/2" Federal premium 5's. Shot one bird at 72 yards stone dead. Too much recoil though, not really enjoyable.
If I still had a 10 I'd get a patternmaster extended range or a hevi-shot tube and shoot #4 or #5 hevishot if you want extra range. 60-70 yards easy.
Brother in law had one of those jellyhead tubes and could shoot a really tight group with 3" 5's out of a 12 to 65 yards.
Thanks- what kind of range do you get with that? I know 6 is easier on the shoulder than 4, but I'm kinda thinking if I have a 10 gauge I might as well shoot a load that will take advantage of the extra oomph. It's possibel I don't know what I'm talking about, in fact I'm sure of that.
