Poults

lakeshiner- I've seen hens strutting too, apparently warning other (unrelated) hens to stay away from their young. My 10 mo. old turkey dog alerted me to these 2 hens with 11 poults in the ditch, over 100 yards to the north, when the wind was out of the west at 6 MPH (Manitowoc County 7/23). Maybe she heard them talking instead of smelled them, because she couldn't of seen them down in the ditch. Or maybe the wind swirled and she caught a scent. She's got quite the nose and let the whole township know about it. It should be a great fall season this year.

I have been seeing lots of poults this year,maybe more then ever.Had three hens with 21 poults in my back yard yesterday nice to see.It was dry here when they were first nesting and when we did have rain it was warm rain,so survival was good.

Saw two hens together with poults . One brood they were almost three times the size . Guess they do not all get breed the first tome around .

Saw a bunch of poults up north by my cabin in Price County. The hens were actually strutting amongst them. Never saw that before, thought maybe they were toms or jakes at first, but they were hens. They were obviously smaller though and looked kind of funny.

Nice Hatch around my Waupaca cty land.Been seeing some nice group's of little ones around the area.

2 hens with around 20 little one's just off A between Oshkosh and Neenah. See turkeys out there a couple times each week but this is the first time I've seen them dragging the youngsters along.

Helping my neighbor combine his wheat field and I saw two turkey nests yesterday. One had 13 eggs and the other 9. Aweful late too still be laying I think. Have been seeing good numbers of little turkeys this year. Haven't seen this many young in probabley 6 years or more. Good things coming in the next few years again.

Timmer...I wasn't too far from there. I had to stop on Mayflower dr. just south of JJ. Good to hear there are lots of poults running around. Hope things are going as well for the little ones in Waushara county as they are here.

Saroon You following me on Cty A yesterday? Had to stop for them just south of Cty S. Surprised to see so many with a single hen but then again that's a good thing for the future.

Had to stop this morning to let 2 hens and 11 poults cross the road. As I passed them they all took to flight and landed in the tall grass. Good to see that many made it through their first month or two...Outagamie Cty.

Flushed a handfull with mom the other day. They pretty much live in my winter wheat plot, see em there often. Pretty big now too, about pheasant size.

I saw 2 hens with maybe 10 poults cross hwy 51 just south of the hwy 8 exit. Luckily they all made it, hopefully they don't make that a regular routine!

I've seen some hens near my house but not a single poult so far. Not sure what the deal is, I don't think the predator population is getting all of them, but it's been a few years not since I saw a little one.

I saw a hen with 6-7 little ones almost a month ago. Saw them again the other day too.
