Pike Fishing
Best Pike Lures for Canada
2/20/13 @ 2:24 PM
A couple buddies and myself will all be making our first ever trip to Canada (Dinorwic,Ontario)early in July. Just wondering if anybody has some feed back on what lures will work good for both casting and trolling during mid summer. I of course want to catch the fish of a life time but the numbers game is always fun too. Will be arriving there July 7th. Thanks in advance.

I just returned from NW Ontario. We did OK with white 4" twister tails -- until I tried a "salt and pepper" 3.5" tube. That drove the pike nuts and occasionally took a bass and walleye with it too.
I also flatten the barb when fishing pike. That works great with the tube and makes release a lot easier. I don't think I lost any fish to the lack of a barb.
I would agree with the twister tail as my go to bait for northern and walleye. When we get on fish, I do not want to mess with all of the hooks involved with rapalas or other hard baits. We find original mister twister in 4 inch to be the best. Yellow, chartreuse or pink heads with yellow or chartreuse tails. You can very quickly get out the single hook and rarely need to use a net. With the jig, you catch just about any species and any size. While you may loose some jigs to northern teeth, they are very inexpensive. I also like to cast or troll spoons, larger the better with a lot of flash. We fish mostly stained water and the yellow and chartreuse colors always seem the best. Leaving in 10 days for Armstrong Ontario.
Rapala X-Rap clown color for sure i like to slash it really hard then slow it down when it gets in sight and it drives the fish crazy. I would say about 60 percent of the pike i have caught on them have been right next to the boat too. better with shorter leader length because it likes to get tangled but you can catch anything on them i have caught many perch, walleye, pike, muskie and smallmouth all in one day on the same x- rap
