How to catch spawning perch

This year I want to try to catch perch during the spawn. I have found a northern WI lake that seems to have a decent population of decent sized ones. I think I know when they typically spawn (late April). But I am correct in that? Also, how do I target them? Do I go to a mud bottomed bay and work the remaining weeds there? Or where else do you suggest? Should I use a crappie sized minnow on a small jig on the bottom or slip bobber, or both? Thanks in advance for your help.

As soon as ice is out I start searching for them usually in shallow seeds I let the fish tell me what they want I'll set out a slip bobber with a minnow one with a worm and then cast out one with a sinker that slides freely with a swivel in front of that 2-3 foot leader and a minnow open the bail and let it sit to see when it starts moving I like the last set up cause if your fishing from shore and they are out a ways you can put a hefty weight on and launch it pretty far
