Me and my brother are taking a 4 day musky fishing trip in early june, we are willing to travel 5 hours in any direction from madison. Looking for a lake that produces a lot of musky action. Any recomendations? we can either camp or stay at a motel.
Thanks in advance.

Right on Esox 001. I do real well on Castle Rock and Petenwell area. There are alot of fish and not just a few big ones. I cosider myself lucky to guide this area, and am lucky to have grown up here. It is also a fun area to be in and is also close to the Dells, which also has some great fishing. I would also mention that I do love to fish Boom Lake to. Anything in the Wisconsin River system is great. It's full of surprises. Like the Catfish we got musky fishing this year. However Castle and Pete are only an hour from Madison. If you check it out have fun.
When I was young and in high school and college, I used to love fishing muskies the first few weeks in June up in Eagle River.
So much water and the water is different. You have action lakes (like the ER chain) really close to trophy water.
If I were taking time off, I'd head to Eagle River and have a great time. To get on the fish, call up a guide and pick his brain. Mark Rottier has been great to me and he loves to fish for the big ones. 906 367 2099. Rob Manthei is also a very good guide and he helped us out in the fall during our "sucker" trip. 715 477 2042.
Governor Dodge State Park. Twin Valley Lake. Only electric motors and if you don't get a few follows at least, I'd think you should probably take up a new hobby LOL! And its only an hour west for you. Most people fish Cox hollow lake and you'll have a chance at having the lake to yourself on the weekdays.
Consider the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage for some great Musky fishing. Take a look at musky guide Bobby Orr's website for photos of some of the fish: http://orrsoutdoors.weebly.com/
There is also some great Walleye and Smallmouth fishing.
