Looks like we'll be ice fishing here in central Wisconsin into April this year. I'm guessing more often than not, around my home, by April 1st the ice is either gone or too rotten to get on. What the latest date you've been able to ice fish, and where, in Wisconsin. I still remember getting onto Mead Lake in central Clark county on April 6th a few years back, but I know all of you from "up north" can do much better than that. What's your story?

I remember a few years back my buddy and I fishing on Lily Lake in north eastern WI on April 22nd. It was 76 degrees when we left Antigo that day and we were on the ice in our shorts and t-shirts. Had to take a long plank to get from shore to the ice but still had about 12" on the lake. We had some good thunderstorms that night and the ice was gone the next day. Not gonna happen this year!

Mid-April, Spooner area. Canoe out to the ice and there was 15-20". 6" of water only makes 6" of ice, shores go quick but the basins will hold it if the weather is correct. Fishing doesn't get any better that time of year for panfish. Up in LOTW there is still a couple feet of ice I heard.

Many years ago, we fished on ice on opening weekend in NW Wisconsin. We had to take a row boat out from shore but there was good solid ice on the main part of the lake. That, by far, is the latest date I've been on hard water.

Wow.....what a difference a year makes! This year, this weekend could very well be an end to things here in central Wisconsin and points farther south. There just wasn't a whole lot of ice to begin with, and now starting tomorrow, temps are not forcast to get below freezing, with rain on Sunday into Monday and 60's for all of next week. Only 17 trips out for me this year....hard to beleive that this weekend may be it for me already.

Just came across this looking to see if anyone was out this past weekend. The last time out this year was 4/10. Back in 2005 or 2006, I fished seven months out of the year in the Tomahawk area. That's starting in November and ending on the opener in May. Hard to pass up on the great panfish fishing that goes on late ice.

Early to mid-april, a few years back... want to say it was the 10th or 11th?? It was a little lake up in oconto county.. Ice was "really thick", but honeycombed and black.. Looking back, it was pretty dangerous.. and I had the wife along. When we'd walk together the ice would sag and water would run up the drilled holes. I don't believe I've ice-fished an April day since!
