Frabil Inline Jigger Rod and Reel
3/26/13 @ 1:12 PM
Just curious to know, if anyone else who owns the new Frabil Jigger Rod & Reel is having trouble with the reel? I love the rod for bluegills, perch and crappies in shallow water, but the reel drag adjustment freezes up and have to take the reel off to let line out. I sprayed the entire reel with Graphite Extreme and does no good. Whenever I use, I have to take the reel off to pull out line. Has this happen to you?
Thank you

Oh yes Tommy, I have had nothing but trouble with my Jiggler's reel. The brass nut, underneath the drag knob on the right side came loose allowing the "guts" to come loose and a plunger and spring dropped out and was lost. I tightened the nut back up. Two trips later and the drag wouldn't work again and the spool wobbled and rubbed when you tried to reel. The brass nut was loose again. This time I put Lock Tite on the threads and relegated it to back up duty and have not used it since. I am not impressed. The first one I tried at GM in Appleton broke in 3 pieces when I gave it a test bend. The blank felt like it had steps in it. The next one was smooth, bends nice, feels great with a fish on it, but he reel sucks.
All in all fine Chinese craftsmanship.

Not sure what reel you have? I have the frabill 241 and have mixed reviews. It has given me trouble, mainly user error. However, I have had the line get into the gears while reeling with a fish on. Needed to retie several times. Some line was left in the gears making operation of the reel difficult. I had to take it apart twice to remove line. Great for shallow water hole hopping. I wouldn't use this reel in 20plus feet since you can't open the bail and let the bait drop. I would suggest checking to make sure line isn't wrapped up in the reel.
