Gun backround check
5/8/12 @ 4:15 PM
Just bought a Savage 30.06 and my background check was delayed. The salesman said if the FBI Didn't call him after 9 days I could come in and pick it up.
, this seems alittle long. AFter researching online several sources say the waiting period is only 3 days. So any answers? The gun purchase was in Wisconsin on Sunday.
Thanks

Can somebody answer this? When i buy shotguns and pistols everytime i put my social security down i get denied but when i dont put my social security i get approve right away. I even got my ccw by not putting my social security down. Now im gonna try to get my ffl license. Hopefully that dont effect anything. Does anybody know why??? Any info would be great. Thanks
I had a long gun delayed once about 3 years ago. Before that and since, I've walked out with long guns the day of purchase.
I never did find out what the problem was but I went back after 3 days and it was cleared up. I suspect that the same deadbeat with my name, including the middle initial, that caused me all kinds of problems when I applied for my first mortgage (nightmare with Credit Bureaus!!!!!) did something that I was getting dinged for.
9 days seems like a long time to me.....I'd be getting in contact with the ATF field office to find out what's attached to my name that could possibly cause this much of a delay. You could also look yourself up on CCAP to see if anything has been attached to you incorrectly.
In Wisco, you should only have to "wait" 3 days for a handgun due to it's ease of concealability and have the "cooling off" period, like that many people buy guns in fits of rage... You can buy a rifle and walk out with it that day (after the background check which takes 10-15 min), which I always found odd. I purchase a 9mm, and have to wait 3 days, yet can walk out the door with an AR-15, with ammo and extra clips like it is no tomorrow. I guess I fail to see what the 3 day wait is really protecting or stopping. ; )
HardCore, You probably never heard of it because 99.9% of the time they call it in and get a verification in about a minute. Occasionally there is a wait, most often times because you're name is similiar to someone elses name. This is where providing you SSN can be of a help. I'm the only one with my name in the country so I'm good but if you're name is John Smith giving your SSN might not be a bad idea.
