Great Lakes Ice fishing

Im interested in doing some ice fishing for trout and Salmon in the harbors near Kenosha, When it gets cold again and the ice is safe. Any tips on best rig to use? Tip ups? Jig poles and rigged with what, I have never fished the harbor, Dont need a spot, Just a direction. Thanks...OUT50

Im interested in trying ice fishing in lake Michigan in the racine harbor for some browns and rainbows for the first time, just wondering what some good lures for jigging are? Any help would he greatly appreciated, pm me if you want

Any who folks we had a light sheet of ice Tuesday night form up on the Ashland side but winds tore it up pretty fast. I think the next calm night we have we should have ice forming up off Ashland it takes a little longer for the Washburn side to make ice so keep your fingers crossed!  Big water ice fishing is almost here folks can't wait. Most everybody that works at the shop is hard core ice fishing and can send you to the hot bites thats our job at river rock putting people on fish

WOW what a shop,, I'l have to get in there in the havent seen that in my 50+ years of fishing this area,, sending guys to hot bites and putting them on the fish,, at that rate theres no need for a guide thats a win win all around for anyone coming to enjoy the great area.

Nate r if you need some info about the bay and smelt fishing shoot me a pm I can send you into the right areas and let you know the hot baits for the smelt bite and others. I fish them pretty hard in the winter for lake trout bait and they are just plain fun to catch. I also work at River rock inn and bait here in Ashland stop on by and we can get you geared up for the bay the great bite we have to offer ice fisherman coming to the area. Thanks for the replies, its good to know that there is areas to go out and catch some smelt. Id like to do self guided trip as I do go out alot on my own for inland lakes fishing. Id like to know I guess where to go or what to use. Dont have to give out any hot spots im Just looking for a general idea. Nate there is many good spots on the Lake Superiors Cheq Bay as aron was saying, how ever for the do it your self trip fishing for them is very easy, If you need some great info on spot to fish them pm me any time. A few of the guys I fish with fish for them all the time to eat and for Big Lake Trout bait. Also another source of good smelt info on the bay to is the owner and guide from anglers all on the east side of ashland. He has done many trips just for smelt alone with good #'s and feed back.

Nate r for icefishing smelt Lake superior's Chequamegon bay is one of the best bets you can catch 20 to 100 plus smelt a day just depends on the bite. And the great part about it is you will also get a great mixed while fishing for smelt. You can expect to catch everything from smelt to perch, coho salmon, browns, pike, whitefish a walleye or two maybe and even herring or ten Lol. No bs you can have it all on Chequamegon bay during the ice season. I do guide mixed bag trips here in the bay as well as big lake trout trips into the Apostle islands on Lake Superior. I do also offer daily ice house rentals here on the bay. Good luck there this season and be safe folks. Chequamegon
