Are there any other options for copper rods other than Shimano Taloras and Okuma GTL copper rods? I currently have Tekotas for my copper reels. Does anyone see a difference between the Taloras vs Okumas with stainless guides other than the price tag?
Thanks for the information.
BTW I am looking for max 8 ft for storage reasons in my boat.
Luckylou.. I have 2 of those rods for walleyes and browns and I really like them for that application.
My only concern for leadcore or copper would be the very small guides out towards the tip of the rod.
Any issues with getting a leadcore or copper knot through there? Pretty small eyes for that in comparision to the okuma leadcore rods.
Honestly - I love the Daiwa wilderness rods for anything you put a planer board on. They're not the nicest rods, but they're $16.99 at Fleet Farm - cannot be beat for the price.
They have a certain stiffness to them, such that they only bend over when fish hit them. They also have the backbone to lift a fish when needed.
I'm cheap on rods - I'll go a little bigger on the drag/reel.
As for the actual rods, I used to have all tdrs as well but last year made the switch to the 8'6" OKUMA CLASSIC PRO GLT COPPER/LEADCORE rods. I have been very pleased with them so far. Plenty of backbone for longer cores and coppers but not so stiff that you feel like your fighting the fish with a broom stick. They also have very large eyes which helps a lot especially with copper Ive found. All that and at 35 bucks a pop its hard to go wrong.

Copper is a 45 lb 300 footer. Have only used the okuma leadcore rods and they are good for the application.
One leadcore rod, is very tough to pick. I would go from a 7 to a 10 color, take your pick. I caught a lot of fish on a fullcore last year......and it was on a Penn 309. Good news is my guns were riveling popeye by the end of summer.
