First I appologize for the two blank post's from earlier, computer wasn't behaving. So my question is, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me to outfit my boat with autopilot? Last year was my first with a "big" boat and I sure miss the advantage of letting my bow mount do the steering as I used to. That being said I currently have a 23' walkaround with rack and pinion steering to a mercruiser alpa one. I have looked into the options of new autopilots but do to a limited budget I would like to shop around. Just looking for insight, Thank you!

Thanks for the input fellas! I am still undecided with what Im goin to do. A private party near me has a used Belmar system for sale. He tells me it will work great for my application, haven't been able to see the unit as he is in Florida till next month. I have looked at the raymarine sport pilot but cant come to terms with laying out that much cash. Rick, I have not called there yet but plan on it this week. I'm starting to think about just putting a kicker on with panther steer, at least then I would have a large fuel savings with my investment.
Tight Box Have you decided on the auto pilot? I would suggest that you talk to Frank at Calumet Marine. 708 862-2407 I know he is in the business of selling but he will still give you the straight scoop and answer any questions that you may have. Also he is fun to talk to. They deal with AP units every day. I better state that I do not own stock in Calumet.
I wish I had something helpful to say but with your rack and pinion steering your options are very limited. I know your on a budget but you might have to bite the bullet and change your steering over to hydraulic. This will open up your options but nothing is cheap. I changed my steering over last year and went with a Garmin. Stay away from the Raymarine Sport Pilot+. Rick
