Anyone know if the older model (without notches) will hold up to diver rigs?

If you have the money to spend - these are quality rod holders. http://www.ciscofishingsystemsltd.com/shop/tube-rod-holders-5251

I wouldn't do it. If you're going to go cheap, go cheap on your board rod holders, not your dipsy rod holders. The way I see it...both the plastic holders or the "balls" are going to weaken over time (whatever that time is) regardless. So, whether you lose a dipsy set up or not, you'll likely end up buying rod holders twice. Additionally, the tougher the seas, the more pull on the rods, the holder, and the frame you've mounted them to. Why not spend $80 on a big jon single holder? (some believe even those wear out in 5 years?)

I agree w/Jason....saw a pair of them deep six dypsy set ups on my buddies boat.Possible drag stuck but holder didn't hold and turned enough to dump the rod and reel. Doh!

Horror story: Two years ago...running 2 dipsies on each side. #3 dipsy had a fish that insisted on being net on the port side of the boat. Moved the #1 dipsy to the back of the boat in an empty cannon downrigger holder. End of story: dipsy rod = gone. Downrigger exploded. Lesson learned, don't put a dipsy in anything you dont trust.

I do not know about Anglers Pal holders! But last year my 3yr old Attwood holder broke in half, and I watched my $150 Dipsy rig sink to the bottom!Buy RAM or one of the newer steel reinforced holders, better to spend a few bucks more and not loose the whole RIG!
