How do you guys think a 89 Spectrum Blue Fin 1706 would do fishing out of Sheboygan? Thinking I will start simple and run a dipsy off each side and one plug straight off the back. Since getting a new 80lb trolling motor with i-pilot I have been trolling for walleyes using the electric instead of the big motor. auto pilot and record a track is sweet when running lines solo. whats the recommended speed to start at for trolling spoons? I've been on a couple charters and pier fished but I would love to be able to take my rig over there once in a while to catch fish for a change of pace from my usuall walleye and panfishing. For whatever reason I do prefer to fish alone usually. please dont everyone just try to scare me away with precautions on going out alone, but what should someone new to this need onboard thats different than inland fishing? planning on staying to calmer days of course and not going too far out. Do many people run 17' boats out here?

Thanks!

We run our 18' boat and as long as we watch the weather and wave reports have not had any problems yet. I have my rig setup so all of my rods running the sides of the boat and only one down the middle. This seems to work best for me as I don't have to worry about dodging rods and lines trying to get the fish in and netted. Makes things easier when you don't have much space to play with.

Wow, running a Terrova for that long that fast is amazing! We've had two 17' Alumacrafts fishing Green Bay for eyes with new batteries trolling around 1 mph and we both had dead batteries after 6-7 hours! Sweating

I've been fishing for salmon for 4 years in my 17' Dominator and have had no probs. Definitely watch the weather & wind, but my boat has handled the big water better than I expected.

I fish out of a 17' Lund on the big lake, a lot. Like said before, just pick your days.

I would use the big motor vs. the trolling motor. Going for salmon, you're going to want to stick to the 2.2-3.0 range. Plus using the steering wheel is a lot easier when you're trying to land a fish and drive at the same time.

You may consider a good inflatable life vest too. Just a thought.

I can troll with my 80 lb Terrova for 2 days staight running 2.5 to 3.2. max speed is 3.9 with no wind. I can use the big motor like I have in the past, but I have enjoyed trolling the last few days just using the electric. much quieter and the auto pilot is great. plus gas goes much farther. marine radio and flares are on my list to get before I do this. is there a specific channel fishermen use for the radio?

I run a 17 foot boat out there as ofen as I can. Pick your days and you will be fine. Just understand that thing can get wild fast.

Make sure you have the required safty gear (fire extinquisher, flares, throwable flotation). I would also have a marine radio nice for safty and listining to other fisherman.

I don't think a electric motor is going to keep up to trolling speed for very long. Ususlly run about 1.8 to 3 mph on a gps.

Other than that wear a life presever if fishing alone. Can't amaging wathching the boat troll away as your in the water watching the only thing that can save you go away in slow motion.
