What's your truck and fuel economy?

This is not about which brand name truck is better than the others, just about how you do with fuel economy with everyday driving and even towing your boat (or other).

Please do not turn this into an argument about brands.

Anyway, the reason I ask is because I am going to be investing in a truck hopefully by the end of this year. I'm dead set on getting a F150 with the EcoBoost engine. I like the power the engine has, coupled with the great fuel economy it offers.

What truck do you guys own, and what type of fuel economy do you see with everyday driving and towing?

2010 F-150 with v-8 the best right now is 19.8 and pulling boat about 17 -18 with tow comand in use. I thought that was real good for f-150.this is going by what the gauge says and i reset each time the oil is changed.

I have 2011 F150 with the Eco-boost and i will tell you straight up don't believe what they say for mileage. The power is great but the best i've done is 21mpg and that was with the 2nd tank. On our Winnie trip this past winter i averaged only 16.8 which was worse than my buddy's 2009 chevy w/V8. The other thing is your gas mileage will be better in warmer weather than cold, something to do with the Turbo. I don't know the specifics but i can attest to it. Since warmer weather got here i'm up almost 2mpg. Overall since buying in Sept. I'm getting between 17-19 to the gal. that's using the trucks numbers from the on-board computer. don't get me wrong....I love the truck! just not impressed with the mileage (actually disappointed)

Ive got a question for you guys? I have a 2000 ford f150, V8 4.6 liter engine. I know it doesnt have the power a 5.4 will have, but should that truck be able to pull a 20 ft triton tr-20 with yahama vmax 225 on it?

It'll tow it. You'll just notice a lot of down shifting and terrible fuel economy.

I drive a 2004 colorado crew cab 4x4, 3.5 I5. Travelling to the mississippi we got 16 mph with my 14" jonboat and 25 hp outboard with minimal gear, traveling around 70. Unloaded on the freeway with no gear I'll get around 25 but mostly 23.It is just enough truck for what i do so far!! Wink

I run a 2011 suburu outback and pull a 17 ft. ranger r72 with a 115 mariner and get 18 mph when towing and 30 mph not towing. I am 500 lbs under manufacuring towing capacity and I could use trailer brakes but so far so good. I rarely drive more than 20 miles one way to fish so this combo works well for me.

2005 F150 FX4 extended cab. Dual exhaust with two twelve inch glass packs. K&N cold air intake. 154,000 miles. 19-20 empty out not towing. Towing boat or bigger load I'm down to 15-16 mpg. Not bad!

A little stats on my truck before I get to the mileage, since there are many factors to the mpg equation besides brand and type.

02' Chevy Silverado, 6.6 Duramax w/ Allison trans., 4" full exhaust, a mild tune, 33.5" Tires and a 3" lift kit.

On a recent 900 mile round trip to Minnesota I got 19 mpg on the free way. That was going 72 mph on cruise control the majority of the way. Keep in mind it is rather hilly for half the trip and gusty winds for the trip there with snow covered roads 1/4 the way home.

If going actual high way speed 55 Mph, my best mpg was 24.5, but this was really babying the throttle, brakes and on a high sulfur summer blend. But on avg. I get 21-22 mpg. If I do alot of city driving, my mpg go down 15-16 mpg. If I tow/haul around 10k I get 18-19 on the highway. When I had my 35" Mickey Thompson Baja Claws on, I was getting 2 mpg less and almost 4 mpg less when hauling.

'09 Dodge 5.7 Hemi...16-17 driving to work, have had 20 on a trip....going to Canada, pulling the boat (17.5 mod. V) with all the gear 15-15 1/2 @ 70 to 73 mph....

love the truck but....on any truck you purchase..be aware...if it has 20" tires....they are PRICY and not much to chose from in tread design.....

there are some really nice looking trucks on the market these days.....

05 chevy 5.3, 4x4. 17.004 miles to gal avg. 83085 miles, 4886 gals of gas burned. 2108 hrs. on engine for an avg speed of 39.41 miles per hr. I drive back and forth to work. Pull my 18 ft. Tracker boat with a 150 every weekend in the summer. Use it ice fishing and hunting. Truck has digital readout, nice for keeping track of mileage. Wink
