Friend of mine had his bird feeders k.o.ed by this bear off Hwy G right by Jordan lake about 20 minutes north of Portage a couple days ago. Kind of rare seeing them this far south. He took these pics right near Boondocks restraunt if anyone wants to look at them: http://wallhangers.net/wallhangers/pin?pinid=66

I think they may have actually been in the Portage paper this last weekend too.

Had a bear roaming around in Mazomanie a few days ago. Not a whole lot of sightings of it. Must have been a short visit then it moved on. Seems there are a dozen sightings each year between Lone Rock and Middleton. I'm not surprised at all. There are many acres of woods in this part of WI. It can certainly support bears. No big deal...people just get stupid and try to catch em or scare em off. If ya want em around, leave out some food...if ya want em to leave, hide everything that remotely looks or smells like food. Pretty simple.

Cousin lives just east of westfield and has had problems for years with bears taking down his bird feeders and getting into his garbage. He's got pictures of some 300 plus lb'ers on his deer cam. Worked a couple times down by Verocau or however you spell that town, seen one cross the road just outside of town in the middle of the day, pretty cool, big bear too.

The big game director of the DNR for SW Wisconsin has tagged several bear in SW Wisconsin. They work out of the Spring Green location at Shot Tower Park.

My folks have had bear in their backyard in Coloma for years. Not sure if it's the same one or a bunch of them. They have quite a few pictures too.

I'm not surprised they follow the river bottoms.

That's good news they are expanding their range then. Hopefully they get a taste for wolves and help protect the deer herd. Although I heard bears actually munch a lot of fawns in the spring up north.

They are down there. Have been for years. Saw one cross the freeway just north of the prison about 15 years ago. I was totally amazed at the way it ran across the median and made it to the other side like a horse in a race. Cool pics!
