Cougars in Marinette County
5/19/13 @ 10:22 PM
Saw a cougar on 5/18/13 about a 1/4 mile East of Long Slide Falls. No doubt in my mind. My daughter and I both saw it. Someone may suggest it was a small bear or bobcat. It was a large cat and had a long tail. Daughter said it was a little darker than the cougar at the Wildlife Sanctuary and not as big.

We too have cougars in Pembine,WI..Marinette County. I came out of cabin last year 2012 opening day of gun season early morning about 5:30 am to head to my tree stand, and went to shut door of cabin and heard a blood curdling scream like an old banshee screaming bloody murder! Turned around and the built in light on my hat caught the cougar on the end of the back deck, took my breath away!!! Think I just pissed myself thinking about it. LOL. If I still have a picture of it on my trail cam sd card, I'll post it, but not sure, gotta look, I caught it 3 times on my cam usually around 2-4am. Haven't seen it this year at all.
Uplander, I am not required to grow up, I am only required to grow older.
Just to clarify a bit. We were in my Jeep and driving from Long Slide to Morgan Co Park. The cat was crossing the road as we rounded a curve. It was about half way across and we were less than 50yds away. I contacted DNR biologist for Marinette Cty and he said there are confirmed sightings to cougar in the area.
You may thnk me crazy for this, but that would only make you but a small addition to an already very long line of people.
Yoter,
We have a Mom with two Cubs that has been seen collecting road kill (which is strange) this spring around us. But I have not sighted her yet, only been told about her. I suspect based on where the sighting have been that she is using the same Den that several have used previously (on state land behind my property). I know where it is located but have steered clear of that area. I am sure the Cubs are still pretty small, no reason to aggravate a Mother Cougar, they are fierce defenders of their young. Some people that use the state hiking trails in that area like to let their dogs run loose, I saw that the State Park Ranger put a sign up saying that a Breeding Cougar is known to be in the area and strict leash laws are in effect. A Cougar will easily kill a single dog, before it even knows what happened, just for invading it's space.
My family owns the cabin west of long slide on the south side of Morgan Park Rd. I know that area better than the top of my college girlfriends head. In the 100 some years that has been in the family we have never seen a cougar. Not surprised as we have seen wolves, bear, moose, and even an Emu. Interesting, with all the human activity around someone is bound to see it again
