Coyote Hunting Calibers
12/18/12 @ 7:29 PM
Hi everyone,
I am new to coyote hunting and was planning on using my Remington 870 12 gauge. I was talking to a friend and he said i could borrow a 22 mag. I have couple questions about it.
Does a 22 mag have enough power to stop a coyote?
Also what is the maximum distance its deadly at?
I would greatly appreciate it if someone has any information.
Thanks

A .22 mag will kill a coyote, providing it's closer than about 100 yards. Beyond that, I wouldn't trust a .22 mag for clean and consistent kills.
If you're really going to get into coyote hunting, then consider getting a .22-250, a .223 or a .243 centerfire firearm. I really like my AR-15 in .223 for coyotes.
