Hi everyone, I am new to coyote hunting and was planning on using my Remington 870 12 gauge. I was talking to a friend and he said i could borrow a 22 mag. I have couple questions about it. Does a 22 mag have enough power to stop a coyote? Also what is the maximum distance its deadly at? I would greatly appreciate it if someone has any information. Thanks

I thought blaze orange in WI is only required if a firearms deer season is going on. Coyote season may be closed at night during a gun deer season, check the regs on both.

I have shot a coyote at 25 yards with a 12ga. using Dead Coyote. Its a special load just for coyotes. Check it out. Little pricey, but it knocked her down. Does anyone know if you have to wear blaze orange if hunting coyotes during the day?

Ive hunted them with both and they both do the job. However, shot placement and proximity are key. If you dont have access to other guns start with these. No need to not go because you dont have the "perfect" setup. I have also shot them with my 30-06.

on the other hand if you are mostly hunting thick stuff with close in shots it is hard to beat the 12 with #4 buck

A .22 mag will kill a coyote, providing it's closer than about 100 yards. Beyond that, I wouldn't trust a .22 mag for clean and consistent kills. If you're really going to get into coyote hunting, then consider getting a .22-250, a .223 or a .243 centerfire firearm. I really like my AR-15 in .223 for coyotes. Formerly Steve @ G & S
