Fairly new to the sport of tying. Couple quick questions im hopeing someone can give me a little direction on. Is there a particular vise that will handle 4/0 and larger hooks. Im tying bucktail jigs for walleyes and the vise im using wont always hold the pressure im putting on it. Also does anybody have a cheap site for either dyed buck tails or jigs (3/8-1 1/2oz) painted or unpainted. I barely have the time to tie, let alone pour my jigs. Finally, what kind of dye is used to dye bucktails or animal hair, and where can I find it.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I am new to the sport of fly fishing. Would like to know what rod and reel and line to buy for steel head fishing in spring. What kind of leader do you use? How are the rods sized 1/4 oz, 3/8 oz 1/2 oz or what? Line LBs test or what ?

Dyna King vices hold large hooks extremely well and do a good job on smaller hooks as well. Problem might be that they are pricey since they are a machined high quality vice.

I have an old Thompson "F" vise that is good for large hooks. I don't know if it's made anymore. try their website or you might find a old one on ebay.

I know some vises sell a separate "head" (the main vise part) designed specifically for larger hooks. I own a Danvise which is a very cost-effective vise, and I've been very pleased with it: http://www.cabelas.com/tools-vises-danvise-classic-vise.shtml

You can buy a head specifically for large flies for that vise.

Like I said, I've been pleased with it, but the fact that much of it is composite plastic instead of metal has meant that some of the quality of a full metal vise isn't there. But, I've had mine for something like 10 years now and it's still treating me well.
