Just purchased a Hummingbird decided from Gander Mountain. When I got it home started reading about software updates and all that good stuff that is way over this old mans understanding. So I have a couple of questions. First has anyone out there used this machine and what are your thoughts. Second I know it comes loaded with certain lakes but do I need additional program as I fish mostly WI & MN lakes. Any help would be appreciated. I haven't taken the unit out of the box yet as my boat is still in storage for the winter. Thanks

On my Humminbird, where you edit tracks, there is a check box to hide the track. Maybe that is what's going on.

I learned about this recently. If you register your unit, and then sign up for Select service (I believe it's free) you get an additional year of warranty on your unit. I went to sign up, but unfortunately for me, it's only for 800 series and up. Here's the link: Humminbird Select

Have a question about saving tracks... Saved current tracks and they no longer show up... ...go to saved tracks, can edit and delete..but not put them on the map overlay is there a way to retrieve?? if not, why would you save? thanks

DougV, thanks for all your input here on Lake-Link.... I have a question on software updates... my unit is several updates behind...do I need to install all the available updates in sequence (incremental), or is each update a full install? thanks

i am thinking about this unit as well, just want to make sure everything comes in the box, all cables gps puck anything that is needed to use it. one other question, i saw a video on youtube that says it doesn't really work in water any shallower than 2-3 ft has this been anyone's experience? thanks for your time Smile

If you have a 12 volt battery charger with alligator clips, you can put power cord in the unit and then hook that up to it and play around with it prior to mounting it on your boat. Go through the user manual while you have your unit on, so you can play around with it and really learn the capabilities. You'll definitely want to invest in a LakeMaster chip. I know for sure that Wisconsin just came out with a new version this year.

I have 898csi and like it very much... I have 2 chips, the Lakemaster WI chip and the Navionics platinum... love the Lakemaster chip...great detail and works with the HB very nicely I got the Navionics because the Lakemaster doesn't have a lot of the smaller lakes I fish, and the Navionics does... http://www.navionics.com/en/hotmaps-platinum http://store.lakemap.com/products/581974/Wisconsin .....Like was said you can get a ton of information off youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/HumminbirdTV?feature=mhum&v=iU3eWgx5Rio&lr=1 here's the how to update your software... you will need to register with Humingbird and download the updates....you need a SD card and a way to connect the SD card to your computer if you don't already have http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rqhm-DyoBc&list=UUu-zubITfTY90Oqeu6Y-Gvw&index=95 ...there is a LOT there.. plus there are some sites with HB experts and users where you can look for stuff, and ask questions here's one I use and have asked questions on and received good info back http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=0o1vau08onipl4u41uqqeh4mb4&action=forum ...

yes you should purchase a lakemaster or navionics chip about 125 dollars i would get lakemaster... if you fish minnesota and wisconsin u would have to get separate chips.. the best way to learn your features on your locator is go to you tube and type in your locator
