Does anyone have any tips/suggestions on how to clean old lures such as daredevils, inline spinners(Mepps) and spoons that have gotten a little rusty sitting in the tackle box?

I cleaned some spinners I salvaged from a log in the Oconto. I tossed them in my wife's sonic jewelry cleaner after a quick scrub with a toothbrush. It did a good job of dislodging all the crud and corrosion in the crevices. For really stubborn stuff I use fine steel wool and finish with some silverware polish on a rag. Can't wait to lose some myself this fall. I posted some I made on the "lurebuilding" thread in the general fishing discussion section.

Thanks for the tip! Since the weather is so hot, this will give me something to do inside.

Best thing for most lure cleaning is 50% Vinegar 50% water and Q-tips... change the qtip often or you will drag rust around scratching it.

I do increase vinegar to around 75% when cleaning metal... BE SURE TO TEST a small area.

DO NOT soak for any period of time or you may strip the paint from the metal if painted... Vinegar can also discolor the metal depending on what it is. SO TEST FIRST

If you are cleaning a pile start by a "SHORT" soak in soapy warm water to speed things up. AVOID SOAKING WOOD.

Hope that helps
