Spinning rod and reel combo

Well you've pretty much listed what you want to fish for and the types of lures you wish to use so my only advice would be to look at those lures and the weights of those lures and match the rod to those weights.

My guess would be a medium action rod with a weight range of 1/8 to 1/2 or 5/8oz lures as a good starting point.

I have caught 29" pike on a light action (1/16 to 1/4oz) rods with only 4# test line but I wouldn't try to make a habit of it.

I would say go to one of the big name outdoor stores like Cabelas, bass pro, or gander and take a look at their combos. They usually have combos that consist of a name brand or store brand reel paired with a store brand rod. I've taken a look at some of those setups and they actually feel pretty good and you usually save some money also (compared to buying seperately).
