I have a catahoula also, one of the most versatile dogs that I,ve seen and very good at tracking too. Bought her as a pup from working parents in Miss.

Not sure if a Catahoula leapard dog counts as hound but his bark sure has hound all over it. He hunts everything and anything and He tracks my deer too. Best dog I've ever had by far!

TD, I don't know about all that. Plotts are not exactly known for lack of grit.

I hunt 3-4 nites out of the week right now so i can get my pups in the best overall shape for the hunts on the weekends..i hear where all you guys are coming from on the crooked people in the hunts now days but if your packin a good dog you should have no problem beating a slick handler..most of the time the best dog wins and if your on top of the rules you can take out a slick handler any day...p.s wildman sounds like you could use a little bite in your bear pack..our walkers lay the ivory to a bear pretty good Wink

SFC S- I also am just pleasure hunting. It is hard when a honest dog gets beat by a slick handler.

I run all Plotts. Have a dozen of them turd eaters in the yard now. Mostly bear, cat, and yote dogs. Don't mess with the coons much. Season is just so short up here. Then don't want my bear dogs messing with a coon. Will hunt dogs for guys on coon, but rarely will ever hunt any of mine on them. I'm with SFC on the nite hunts. Eventually they would land me in prison for knocking the crap out of some cheat. Will leave it at that knowing how passionate some are about those nite hunts. Can't even be looked down on as a hide hunter. Since I prefer to hunt bear. Pretty much everyday of the season. But could really care less if I ever killed one. Just enjoy the dog work, on one of the most dangerous animals in our woods. Although coon hunting would result in less vet bills!!! Just not as much fun when you dont have the thought in the back of your mind your quarry could kill you! Steve

I coon hunt with a walker. She's 6 and is a very honest, clean running, dependable coon hound. I used to do some nite hunts but got disgusted with the some aspects of it..Some folks will do anything to "finish a dog grand". So i just hyde hunt now.
