Having an issue on 10mo old choc lab throwing up. He sleeps in his kennel in our room and I will hear him start making sounds like he is about to throw up and he will vomit a small amount of bile. He does this maybe a couple times a week. It is only at nite, usually early morning hours 2am-5am. Anyone have any thouhts? Did he swallow something he can't digest? He does not act sick at all and is always full of energy and eager to train. Did not call the vet yet, as they will just say to bring him in. Thanks

I've also found one of THESE dog bowls to work as well. It will force them to slow down when they are eating.

That happens more often then you think. one more thing you can try is adding a bit of water to his food at night. When pups eat they are for the most part so excited to eat that they rush and don't chew there food. This comes from being in the pack with there other bros/sis. It will take some time for that to go away as the dog gets older. anyway.. by feeding your dog at night and adding a bit of water it helps them stay full overnight while they rest. Feeding a dog in the morn can make the dog burn off the food fast and can lead to other issues later on. When the dog is feed there whole daily amount at night the body has time to rest and absorbed the food. This also helps them "feel" fuller for longer. The energy will be burned off through the day and when you train. This is just what works for us.

Our yellow lab had very similar problems from the time he was a puppy up until he was around 2 years old. The vet figured out a couple different problems that were causing the vomiting. We figured out that he has a sensitive stomach and does not tolerate dog foods with chicken or beef. As a result, we switched him to a lamb & rice based dry food, which made a huge difference. The second issue that the vet figured out was that he actually has an acid reflux problem. Vet prescribed a standard Pepcid pill once daily with his last meal of the day. Additionally, we split his daily feedings into three: morning, evening and right before bed. All of the above changes have virtually eliminated all vomiting for him and cleaning the carpets for us! Good Luck.

We had lab pup that threw up in early mornings too. It was always tha green bile stuff. Took him to the vet, vet said he was probably overly hungry. We started to feed him about 1/2 cup of food right before we went to bed and it solved the problem. He eventually grew out of it.

We are feeding him nutri source and we get a new bag about monthly. His appetite has not changed. This morning he ate shortly after vomiting like nothing happened tail waggin

How old is it's food? Dog food will go rancid and cause nausea and vomiting. We used to buy the big bags of Iams or Science Diet but found that it took too long for our lab to go through the bag and it would go bad. Especially in summer when the house is significantly warmer. He would throw up frequently and then just stop eating. We'd get a new bag of food and he would go right back to being normal. You said it was a pup but if you bought a big bag when you got it (8-10 months ago), it could be the food.
