Post your 2013 Canadian Fishing Plans
2/1/13 @ 9:04 AM
It's that time to start dreaming of our 2013 Canadian plans.
Eight of us leave Milwaukee on May 24 for a fly-in out of Red Lake(Chimo Lodge). Last year was very cold and fishing not so good.Snow on the ground when we arrived. Keeper Lake is a walleye and northern lake.Jigs and twister for walleyes. We don't take in live bait.Spring in Canada is always so "iffy". Can be fantastic and can be slow and cold. If ice hasn't been out for long, walleyes are slow and feel like ice cubes.Cost per man for full week is about $880. There is also the cost of food and travel up and back. A good year to all!

Just got back from fly-in 50 miles NW of Red Lake. We used only plastics-jig and twisters, with some bottombouncers. Average walleye bite. Mostly around structure and rocks, but not weeds. Had to find them. Northerns ok, largest 39+, with lots in the upper 30s. No 40s this year. Average to low water levels.
Roger Lake was good this year...not great just good. Lower water levels, higher water temps, and a mayfly hatch just before we got there. Storm fronts came thru all week which didn't help either. All in all we caught fish just not the numbers of larger walleye in that 22-26" range like normal. Not much SM topwater action but I did manage to catch 9 over 18" with the largest 20-1/4. The falls was a good producer again but with the falling water levels don't know how long someone will be able to get up there. The large northerns avoided me again this year with 34" the biggest.
Leaving June 25 for Temple Bay. Seventh trip to Temple Bay since 2004. Missed the last two years due to family obligations. Can't wait to get back up there.
For anyone interested here's some info on Temple Bay.
It is truly a vacation since they do everything except catch the fish. Service and food excellent. From waitresses, dock boys, guides you won't find nicer folks. Fishing on Eagle unbelievable, quality and quantity. Take a pillow and blanket for the bus ride and try to get some shut eye on the bus. Beverages provided on bus. Will try to post updates on what worked and what didn't . If your new to the lake get a Fishing Hot Spots map. The spots marked are excellent starters for spots to try. You will find many unmarked spots by using your depth finder on their boats. Be careful lots of dangerous spots on lake, watch where the guide boats go. They also will give you a clue as to where the fish are biting. Lots of big water, if guide boats are out in the middle of no where you can bet they are fishing the humps. Lots of humps in this lake not marked on maps.
If you can, take a guide one day to help the learning process for the lake.
Good luck ! Any questions I will try to answer in a timely manner.
Leaving 1 week from today for Bear Paw on Caribou Lake by Armstrong. Fourth year at Bear Paw, 40th overall. Supposedly the ice went out last week, we'll see. No beers in the boat, learned my lesson last year, open intoxicant $125 paid to the order of Thunder Bay.
Last week in September, back to Agimac River on Indian Lake near Ignace
Good luck to all,
BFG
13 days and a wake up!!!!!! Oh Yea Boys. Last year we caught just under 3500 fish. The first 2 days we only caught two hundred as a group. After we figured out the lake, it was 600's 700's and even an 800 fish day.....thats between 6 of us. Grace Lake, Ontario CA May 29th to June 6th. Pm if you have any questions. Our 13th year with this outfitter. SPLIT
Going June 26th to July 8th for 10 days to North of 51 Outposts out of Pickle Lake to Crerar,Napier, and Townshend Lakes on the Etowamami River System. These lakes have not been fished in 8 to 10 years. Will be roughing it in a tent camp for sleeping with a cooking cabin that has stove, refrig, and kitchen with table/chairs. Also a propane grill. The fishing should be great as no one has fished these lakes in at least 8 to 10 years

Hope you are aware that Paradise Cove has no drinking water, although they will provide jugs that have a filter attached. We were there last Summer and the bar/restaurant was closed as well. If you know otherwise it would be good to know, as we are intending to fly out of Minaki again this summer, but we are staying in Kenora before flying out to avoid the hassle of water issue, since they dont provide the jugs if you are just there for a night.
