REWARD OFFERED IN TURTLE BEATING The Global Conservation Group of Watertown is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the beating of a snapping turtle. It happened at the Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan on June 10 between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. The female turtle, looking for a place to lay her eggs, was found lying in the sand in a bunker with holes in its shell. It was also struck in the right eye, a wound which appeared to have been from a golf club. The turtle will have surgery today and has about a 40-60% chance of survival. Anyone with information about this case should call the DNR hotline at 1-800-TIP-WDNR or 1-800-847-9367. Callers can remain anonymous.

Im still a proponent of an eye for an eye. Give these asses a couple wacks with a 3 iron and see how they like it. but no free surgery to fix the damage. All this animal abuse garbage has to stop. I love alot of wild game even had turtle soup but I really love to just see nature. That turtle was doing no harm just living its life. If you ask me with this golf course knowing that there is a nest in the sand trap they should close this trap down. If your ball is in there you can not play it out. But this jerk probubly seen the turtle and went over to it. this attack is just sense less.

If they do catch them, they should make that person hand feed it until it's well enough to be released, might run out of fingers first.

If the wounds are likely from a golf club and they have it narrowed down to a two hour window... can't they just ask for the list of golfers who had a tee time during that period? You'd think they could talk to some of them and narrow it down..

It is an awful thing that was done for sure but at the same time are they really going to do surgery on this animal? Never heard of a deer hit by a car getting surgery. The humane and sensible thing to do in this case is euthanize. I hope they catch the criminals and prosecute.

It's the same mentality as the idiots who run them over with a vehicle. In all fairness though, a turtle can run across a road with blinding speed and make it hard to avoid running them over. I hope someone golfing at the time will step forward at report the person that did it. Killing humanly for food is one thing, critter bashing is completely different.
