Waders

Two years ago I purchased a non-insulated pair of waders from Farm and Fleet (Winchester Guide Series - $59 bucks.) I used them for one season, and the following year they had a leak. I purchased a new pair, used them for the season, and this year they also had a leak, so I purchased another new pair - just curious if anybody else has had this problem. In the Winter I store them in the basement hanging from their straps with a metal hanger. Am I missing something here, or is a new pair of waders the price of admission these days. I suppose $59 bucks is a fair enough price for the season, but if I could do something differently to make them last for two seasons I'd be happy to do it.

I store mine hanging up in the basement, and that clearly has not worked for me. I do use them quite a bit, and they don't leak when I put them away. They do however leak the next season when I doing some spring river fishing.

Be careful about storing near any electric motors,ie: furnace, humidifier, fan etc. Electric motors give off ozone which will destroy rubber really fast.

The waders I use last many years and I just get the cheap ones from F&F. I use a wader hanger for storage. It is a metal hanger that cradles the boot and hangs the waders upside down. I hang them off a water pipe in the basement. My humidity is kept at 60% with a dehumidifier.

I've heard similar stories from my friends so I show them the " W"shaped plastic bracket that holds my waders upside down by their heels. It's screwed to the wall in a cool dry basement room away from the window. My friend Jeff had the same problem because he always stored his in a heap, piled in the back of his car, that always sat baking in the sun. You're doing the right thing hanging them up after each use.

I purchased the same waders from the same place. The very first time I wore them, they snagged on a submerged branch in the stream and tore down in the boot part. I was hoping they would last the season. They did not last one wade in our stream. Trouter
