rikj - I thought I saw it in the last article or so of WON but I don't remember off hand what it was exactly. I want to say they weren't considering it all that bad, it was better than I would have guessed. Around moderate or something like that. Maybe it got bumped up at the end now, not sure.
went to Florence this weekend. saw a lot of deer, some where pretty skinny. but I didn't find any dead deer or bones. some of the does might of absorbed there fawns this year, but a lot of them look good. a lot of the snow was going away. the woods was probably 50/50 between snowy areas and bare ground. it looks like a good number of last year fawns made it through. it was high 60s this Saturday. if this weathers keeps up the deer will be fine.

Not a very specific article. Deer are plentiful and looking healthy by me, but I am not that far north.
between Brussels and Maplewood. dnr tested them and there stomach were full of twigs. they even walked up to some that were dam near dead. landowners first found 15 and then they kept looking and they found a lot more . it was on wdor radio too. total number was 30 and some more are real close to dying
I'm more worried about the Turkey than the deer in my Area of Northern Sawyer County- deer look good still and I have not heard of any winter kill unlees it involved Coyotes and wolfs- Turkey on the otherhand are flocking to feeders- the flocks in the areas that have people feeding are most likely OK- but those that dont have a feeder could be hurting with the crusted 6 inches of snow buried under the 15 inches on the ground still.
